Unprecedented victory for América Women against Cúcuta Deportivo

At approximately 3:30 pm, the ball started rolling at the General Santander Stadium in the city of Cúcuta to kick off the game corresponding to matchday 13 of the 2024-II Betplay League. A first-ever meeting in the Women's League.

The team led by Daniel Mejía took to the field with: Nohelis Coronel, Carolina Arias, Laura Orozco, Carolina Pineda, Leury Basanta, Jessica Caro, Tatiana Castañeda, María Fernanda Agudelo, Gisela Robledo, Paula Escobar and Wendy Bonilla.

In the first few minutes of the match, our team had chances to take the lead, but lacked effectiveness in finishing.

The paths to goal were not so clear for the Scarlet team who, although they managed to break down the flanks, lacked the depth to send the ball into the back of the net.

In first-half stoppage time, our captain and midfielder Carolina Pineda intercepted a ball in the box and fired it into the back of the net, putting América ahead. The first half ended with our team leading by a single goal.

In the second half, our team came out onto the field with renewed energy and a determined attitude to attack and extend their lead. However, our forwards again lacked precision and were unable to find the back of the net.

Around the 66th minute, after a shot that our goalkeeper Nohelis Coronel could not safely contain, the opposing team scored the equalizing goal.

Our team continued advancing, searching for the opposing goal, until in the 82nd minute, an opposing player committed a foul in the area on our forward Paula Escobar and the referee awarded a penalty.

Ingrid Vidal converted the penalty to extend our lead. The match ended 1-2, a first-ever victory for our team in Cúcuta.

On matchday 14, América will host Atlético Nacional in a match that promises plenty of excitement.
