Preview: América visits Independiente Medellín on Matchday 6 of the Betplay Women's League

América de Cali Women visit Independiente Medellín to play the match corresponding to matchday 6 of the Betplay Women's League 2024. The match will be played at the Metropolitano de Itagüí stadium at 6:10 pm on Saturday, April 6.

The Medellín team comes into this match after a narrow defeat against Llaneros. Meanwhile, the Red Devils defeated Deportivo Cali in the Valle del Cauca derby, a match in which they rallied to secure a valuable victory in the final minutes.

Our technical director Daniel Mejía and player Mariana Zamorano spoke to the media at our Cascajal Sports Complex.

"The team is on a significant upward trajectory; it's difficult to get going again, but as the matches go by, we're becoming more solid in our understanding of the game. We're experiencing significant growth," the striker said at the beginning.

She added: "We are all working towards the same goal and in the same way to be starters. Those who won't be here are important, they make a difference, but we have players who are prepared for what's to come." This, taking into account that Wendy Bonilla, Natalia Giraldo, and Fabiana Yantén are with the Colombian National Team, as is Nohelis Coronel with the Venezuelan National Team.

"Independiente Medellín has a process underway, they like to have the ball, they like to press high and they are fighting for the top spots in the table," the forward analyzed about this rival.

For his part, strategist Daniel Mejía also spoke about this match in which we will seek to add points again to be at the top of the table:

"A playing style isn't based on the players in the starting eleven, but rather on the concepts that those on the field need to understand and implement. It doesn't depend on specific players, but on them having a very clear grasp of the concepts," he said, referring to the absences the team will have for this match.

He added: “In this match against Independiente Medellín, we'll face several challenges. The first is seeing which team will prioritize possession, not just having the ball, but controlling areas where we can hurt the opponent. Another challenge will be how we win the ball back; we want to see that evolution as well. Those are the two biggest tactical challenges.” He added one more: “It's a six-point game. If we win, we'll establish a six-point lead, so the victory is also very important for that reason.”
