Impressive Victory of the Americas Women's Team in Barranquilla

Daniel Mejía's team defeated Junior 2-6 at the Romelio Martínez stadium and strengthened their position at the top of the standings.

On the date of the BetPlay Women's League, the team from the Sultana del Valle took to the field with: Natalia Giraldo; Fabiana Yantén, Karen Vidal, Laura Orozco, Carolina Arias; Carolina Pineda, Tatiana Castañeda; Wendy Bonilla, Paula Escobar, Gisela Robledo and Vanessa Castillo.

The first goal of the match came quickly. Just three minutes into the game, Gisela Robledo sent in a cross looking for Vanessa Castillo; however, Yelisa Miranda, in her attempt to clear the ball, sent it into her own net, putting the American team ahead 1-0.

In the 22nd minute, the Red Devils extended their lead. Wendy Bonilla entered the penalty area and shot with her right foot. A defender deflected the ball, but Paula Escobar was there in the six-yard box to head home the rebound, scoring the visitors' second goal on the chilly afternoon in the capital of the Atlántico department.

América didn't let up and scored their third goal in the 25th minute. After a precise cross from Fabiana Yantén on the left flank, Gisela Robledo rose highest to head the ball past goalkeeper Karen Ceballos. With two minutes remaining in the first half, Robledo scored again, this time after a great assist from Wendy Bonilla.

In the second half, the Barranquilla team came out with renewed energy and managed to pull one back within the first 27 seconds. Stefanía Santos tried her luck from outside the box; the ball deflected off Laura Orozco and wrong-footed Natalia Giraldo, who watched as the ball ended up in the back of the net.

In the 55th minute, Junior narrowed the gap again with a precise, low shot across goal from Paula Hernández after a corner kick. The score at the Romelio Martínez stadium was 2-4.

The match lacked excitement. Robledo, the star of the game, completed her hat trick in the 77th minute. The skillful winger received the ball in the box, evaded an opponent, and finished at the near post past the home goalkeeper to score América's fifth goal in Barranquilla and their 300th in official competitions. Paula Escobar sealed the victory in the 86th minute. Robledo surged into the opposing penalty area to assist Escobar, who simply had to tap the ball in to make it 2-6 at the Romelio Martínez stadium.

With this resounding victory, América de Cali Women remain at the top of the table with 25 points, the result of 8 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. The Red Devils' next challenge will be against Llaneros at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium. The date and time of that match are yet to be determined.
