America Women started the Liga quadrangulars on the right foot

At approximately 6:00 pm, the ball started rolling at the Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium in Bogotá to kick off the game corresponding to matchday 1 of the Liga Betplay 2024-II quadrangulars.

The team led by Daniel Mejía took to the field with: Natalia Giraldo; Carolina Arias, Tatiana Castañeda, Carolina Pineda, Leury Basanta, Jessica Caro, María Fernanda Agudelo, Mariana Zamorano, Gisela Robledo, Wendy Bonilla and Paula Escobar.

From the opening minutes of the match, América de Cali started with great intensity, pressing forward in search of the opposing goal. Our team had several clear chances, first Mariana Zamorano testing the goalkeeper from distance, and then Gisela Robledo, in a clear one-on-one situation, failed to convert.

In first-half stoppage time, América brought on Carolina Pineda, who orchestrated a play down the left flank with Leury Basanta and Wendy Bonilla. A pass found María Fernanda Agudelo, who then delivered a masterful through ball to Paula Escobar, who had a fantastic game. Escobar drove into the box and, with her left foot, curled the ball into the back of the net, leaving the home goalkeeper with no chance. A stunning goal and a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

“At that moment I thought about making a pass and the ball went in,” the forward said at the post-match press conference.

In the second half, our team tried to increase the difference, but the game became more physical, resulting in several yellow cards for both teams.

In the end, the match ended with a narrow victory for the team led by Daniel Mejía, who are now in first place in Group B thanks to their sporting advantage.

In matchday 2, América de Cali will host Deportivo Cali at the Francisco Rivera Escobar stadium in the municipality of Palmira at approximately 4:00 pm.
