This Thursday, November 20, América de Cali will open its participation in the semifinal quadrangulars of the League facing Atlético Nacional at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, in Medellín.
In the lead-up to the match, head coach David González and midfielder José Antonio Cavadía spoke to the media and shared their thoughts on the game.
“We have high expectations of putting together a four-team tournament worthy of this institution,” stated González, who also referred to the recent Copa MX match against the Verdolaga team. “We should have learned from the many things that happened in that game: the situations, how to counter their strengths, and how to exploit their weaknesses.”
The coach highlighted Nacional's offensive prowess in transition: “They're a team that relies heavily on offensive transitions, especially with players arriving from deep. That's where they're strong. We need to be vigilant, ensure our offensive marking is truly effective, and position ourselves correctly to prevent those potential receivers from getting the ball. Concentration and sticking to the game plan will be key.”
For his part, midfielder José Antonio Cavadía asserted that the team is prepared for the challenge: “The team is focused on what it wants. We need to approach the game with more certainty and confidence to capitalize on the chances we create; to be more efficient. We must show some fighting spirit; what happened in the Cup can't keep happening, given the level of competition.”
The match between the Scarlet and the Green teams will be played at 7:30 pm at the Atanasio Girardot stadium .
