This Friday, July 18, 2025, at a press conference at our Cascajal Sports Headquarters, the president of América de Cali, Marcela Gómez Giraldo, addressed the media regarding the current situation of the Institution with the aim of clarifying the various versions that have circulated in recent days in the media and social networks.
Regarding the club's sporting management, he said: “Here, the selection of a coaching staff or a player is not an impulsive, improvised, or isolated decision. It is the result of a structured, technical, and human process that responds to the sporting and institutional demands of our club. Because at América, we don't seek to improvise: we seek to build with vision.”
Regarding the coaching staff's licenses, he stated: “From day one, we initiated all the necessary procedures with UEFA, CONMEBOL, the Colombian Football Federation, and DIMAYOR. Due to the short timeframe, we are still awaiting responses from these entities. We are confident that everything will be resolved satisfactorily in the coming days. Yesterday, we received the license for Alejandro Blasco, our physical trainer, who will be able to join us on Tuesday.”
The president took this opportunity to refer to the players who recently left the institution:
“I also take this opportunity to thank Esneyder Mena, who has decided to terminate his contract with the club for personal and family reasons. Likewise, we wish Brayan Medina, one of our homegrown players, the greatest success at his new club as he begins his journey in Europe. To Duván Vergara, we can only express our gratitude, affection, and admiration.”
Similarly, he addressed Juan Fernando Quintero's recent transfer to River Plate and the situation surrounding his signing: “We want to make it clear that his contract with América de Cali was fulfilled until the day he left, and that there are no outstanding debts to the player. His relationship with the club ended formally and transparently, as is appropriate for a professional relationship.”
Regarding the rumors about a possible sale of the club, the president was categorical in stating: “América de Cali has not been sold. The Gómez Giraldo family, the current majority shareholder, has always publicly stated that we would be willing to sell if a serious, transparent, and responsible proposal were to arrive. But any interested party must comply with legal, financial, and ethical standards, because América de Cali is not for sale at any price.”
Regarding the team's current economic situation , Gómez Giraldo emphasized that this semester they have faced financial challenges due to the reduction in ticket revenue and took the opportunity to report that, after negotiations with the Local Commission, they were able to bring instruments into the south stand.
The president reiterated her commitment to hard work, transparency, and passion because América de Cali is bigger than any manager, player, or rumor.
