With goals from Jhon Murillo and Yojan Garcés , América defeated Bahia of Brazil 2-0 and secured their place in the round of 16.
Following this match, head coach Gabriel Raimondi analyzed the game in a press conference:
“From the very beginning, we’ve always tried to convey our vision. It’s important to keep a clean sheet in every match, or at least try to, but we can’t neglect that attacking phase. It’s important to create chances. Our performance was better than when we went to Bahia. We had an extra week of training, an extra week to condition the players so they could physically withstand the workload,” said the manager.
“We don’t have to ask anything of the fans, we have to give to them, little by little with these performances, with this effort, we are giving to them. One has to give before asking, this is our moment to give,” he pointed out.
Regarding the team's absences in the league, he stated: “When you have hard-working players who play good football, everything is much easier. It's true that these guys sacrifice themselves; this team is built to play together, to suffer alongside each other. I think that's the foundation for playing better football. We have to improve a lot; we still have a lot of work to do. We have to apply what we work on during the week, and sometimes it doesn't work out. This team has room to grow.”
America will face Fluminense in the next round of 16, with the date and time to be confirmed.
For now, America's next opponent in the BetPlay League 2025-I will be against Águilas Doradas on Saturday, July 26 at the Pascual Guerrero.
