This Tuesday, April 8, in the lead-up to the match for the second round of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage, América de Cali and Corinthians will pay a heartfelt tribute to Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia , a legend of South American football who left an indelible mark on both clubs.
Freddy Rincón , known as the "Colossus of Buenaventura," was much more than a talented midfielder. His power, leadership, and dedication made him an idol at América de Cali, with whom he won several titles in the 1980s, and later a key figure at Corinthians, where he was a crucial part of the historic team that won the first FIFA Club World Cup in 2000.
As part of the tribute , a special space will be reserved in each locker room to display Rincón's jersey. In addition, the captains of both teams will symbolically exchange jerseys in his honor minutes before warm-ups (-50), and during the game, all players will wear a commemorative patch paying tribute to the eternal Colossus.
This event will be an emotional tribute to a player who not only shone on the field, but also united two peoples through his legacy and his passion for football.
