David González was born on July 20, 1982, in Medellín, Colombia. He was a professional goalkeeper for Independiente Medellín (2002–2005 and 2015–2019), where he became a club idol. He also played for Deportivo Cali and European clubs such as Çaykur Rizespor, Manchester City, Aberdeen, Brighton, and Barnsley, among others.
His managerial career began in 2022 with Independiente Medellín, leading the team to the final of the 2022 Finalización tournament. With the "Poderoso" (Powerful One), he managed 56 matches with an approximately 50% winning percentage. Subsequently, in 2023, he took charge of Deportes Tolima, leading the team to the final where they again finished as runners-up, this time against Atlético Nacional. He recorded a winning percentage of around 62% in 70 matches. His most recent managerial experience was with Millonarios.
González holds the PRO License from the Colombian Football Federation and the Argentine Football Coaches Association (ATFA).
Now, the strategist takes on a new challenge at the helm of the Scarlet team, with a contract running until December 2026 and the option to extend it for an additional year. He will be joined by Jorge Becerra as assistant coach and Nicolás Ramírez as physical trainer.
In addition, other members who have been working with the men's professional team will remain on the coaching staff: Alex Escobar, Carlos Hernández, Harold Viáfara and Roger Villalobos.
