America defeats Alianza in stoppage time and adds three valuable points in Valledupar

In a hard-fought match, América de Cali defeated Alianza FC 1-0 at the Armando Maestre Stadium in Valledupar, for matchday 11 of the 2024-II BetPlay League. The only goal of the game was scored by winger Duván Vergara , who sparked jubilation among the América fans with a stunning free kick.


The team managed by Jorge Da Silva arrived in Valledupar, the capital of Cesar, aiming to extend their winning streak, and they succeeded. From the opening whistle, the match was tight and evenly contested. In the 16th minute, América threatened with a powerful shot from Felipe Gómez that went wide of Carlos Mosquera's goal. Alianza responded almost immediately, and two minutes later, Andrés Rentería found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside, denying the home side a goal.


Thirty-seven minutes into the match, América created a clear opportunity with a well-worked team move that ended at the feet of Josen Escobar , but the midfielder was unable to convert. With this valuable result, América de Cali now has 22 points and sits in second place in the standings. The team from Valle del Cauca now turns its attention to the Copa BetPlay, where they will host La Equidad on Wednesday, September 25th, at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium, for the Round of 16.
