América de Cali was dominant at home and thrashed Alianza FC 3-0

In a match they dominated from start to finish, América de Cali defeated Alianza Petrolera 3-0 at the Pascual Guerrero stadium . Juan Fernando Quintero was the star of the night.


The home side gave the first warning in the 3rd minute. Cristian Barrios connected with a shot towards goal, but a rival defender threw himself forward and deflected the ball, making it easy for goalkeeper Juan Chaverra to save.


Two minutes later, Barrios was involved in a controversial play in the penalty area, where he was brought down by a visiting player. The referee was alerted by VAR about a possible penalty; however, after reviewing the play, he decided to allow it to continue.


In the 19th minute, the visiting team responded with a header from striker Jesús Muñoz that went wide. Three minutes later, Juan Fernando Quintero surprised everyone with a free kick to the near post, forcing the goalkeeper into an immediate save. On the rebound, Argentine striker Rodrigo Holgado came close to opening the scoring, but his shot went wide.

Four minutes later, Alianza was saved again after a double chance in the area: first, Cristian Barrios threatened with a shot, and then Holgado tried to capitalize on the rebound, but a defender deflected the ball for a corner.


In the 39th minute, Juan Fernando Quintero scored after a great counter-attack, but the goal was disallowed due to a previous handball by Cristian Barrios, which had to be reviewed by the central referee with the help of VAR.

Six minutes later, Juan Fernando Quintero delivered the final blow, with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area and sent it into the back of the net, making it 3-0 at the Pascual.


América won convincingly in front of their home crowd, reaching 17 points and moving into third place in the standings. The Red Devils ' next opponent will be Deportivo Cali, a match scheduled for March 24th in Palmaseca, for Matchday 10 of the 2025-I BetPlay League.
