“I will continue dreaming about America, now from a different role”: Luis Paz, sports delegate

At 37 years old, Luis Alejandro Paz Mulato announced his retirement from professional football, a sport in which he debuted in 2009. After playing 212 matches with América de Cali and winning two titles, the experienced midfielder says goodbye to the pitch to continue being linked to the club he loves in a new role: sports delegate.

During the start of the 2026-I preseason, Paz stated:
“It’s a mix of feelings, a little melancholy for leaving what I’ve done since I was a child, playing football and living that experience for 20 years, but also joy for continuing in the institution that knows what I feel for it and for the recognition of what I’ve done as a footballer.”

He also highlighted the significance of remaining at the club:
“Being here means continuing with the passion this team inspires in me, helping from my position to achieve our goals and contributing to making América even greater. Wherever I am, I will always cheer them on.”

Finally, he added:
“I dreamed it, I imagined it. The road is long, and today I can say that it is possible to achieve the dreams and goals one sets for oneself. We continue in that process, now building new dreams from a different role.”

Luis Paz officially assumes the role of sports delegate starting with the 2026 season, being responsible for the administrative organization of the professional team, a position previously held by former player Iván Vélez, current sports manager of América de Cali.
