Preview: Valle del Cauca derby on matchday 16 of the League

This Sunday, November 3rd, América hosts Deportivo Cali in matchday 16 of the Betplay League 2024-II.

The Scarlet team continues to lead the standings with 33 points, while the opposing team sits in sixteenth place with 14 points . Our team comes into this match after a 1-1 draw against Atlético Bucaramanga in the first leg of the Betplay Cup semifinal, while the green-and-white team, already eliminated from this tournament, secured a narrow victory against the Santander team in the league.

Regarding this classic match , our players Yerson Candelo and Cristian Barrios spoke to the media in the lead-up to the game:

“It’s going to be a very difficult match. We know it’s a very special game for both clubs and fans. This match will help us solidify our first-place position and enter the semifinals with more confidence. We know Deportivo Cali has improved their level of play, but we’ll focus on our own game,” said the defender.

“We know that fatigue will always be noticeable, but this team never gives up, never surrenders. A Clásico is a Clásico, and we have to go out and win it. Regarding the statements made in Barranquilla, I admit it wasn't the right time to say them. Since I arrived at América, I've given everything I have; I haven't spared any effort in fighting for this jersey. I want to be a champion with América,” said the striker.

The match between the red and green teams will be played at 4:10 pm at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium.
