América de Cali travels to Barranquilla to play their match against Junior for the 5th round of the BetPlay League 2025-II quadrangulars.
The scarlet team arrives motivated after drawing against Independiente Medellín, while the shark team defeated Atlético Nacional.
Our head coach, David González, addressed this crucial match in our quest to reach the final: “We try not to let those kinds of statistics affect us when they're against us. To say that they could affect the opponent would almost contradict what we preach. In football, some people tend to overthink statistics. Our focus is on doing our job, understanding their strengths, and trying to play a good game to win,” he said regarding América's recent victories against this same opponent.
Regarding the keys to securing the three points, he said: “Being efficient with the scoring opportunities we have. We know it's a difficult pitch, a tough opponent, we'll have scoring chances, and we have to be efficient with the ones we get so we don't suffer later. We must try to capitalize on what we do well with goals.”
And finally, he emphasized: “We are clear about what is at stake, we were clear about it when we needed to win to be at this stage we are playing in today. We are aware of the importance of this match, of a good result, and we will go out with that mentality to seek the victory that will bring us closer to a final.”
The match between América and Junior will be played on December 4th at 8:35 pm at the Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez stadium.
