Preview: América visits Junior on matchday 1 of the quadrangular stage

América de Cali faces Junior in Barranquilla on the first day of the semifinal quadrangulars of the Betplay League 2024-II.

Regarding this match and the start of the quadrangular stage, our head coach Jorge Da Silva and defender Edwin Velasco spoke to the media at our Cascajal Sports Complex about this encounter:

"Starting off on the right foot is going to be very important, especially against a great rival. Qualifying for the semifinals gave us a boost of confidence to face this opponent. Junior is a team with good players, game-changing players, so we have to focus on our own game. Whoever can capitalize on the key moments of the match will be the one who dominates it," the player said.

“We don’t want to make decisions, we want to win the League and the Cup, we have a squad to aim for that,” Velasco emphasized.

Our strategist, for his part, analyzed the coastal rival and América's current form after reaching the Betplay Cup final: “We have to do many things differently compared to the last match against Junior. I think it was one of our weakest performances of the season; we made a number of individual and collective errors. We're in a different position now, at a different point in our careers. We'd had a dip in form, and in that match, the team lacked the right attitude and concentration. América is coming in strong. The team has bounced back, and we're going into this match with a lot of confidence, knowing we're facing a very tough opponent,” he concluded.

The match between Rojos and Tiburones will begin at 8:30 pm this Thursday, November 21st at the Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez stadium.
