This Sunday, July 21, América de Cali visits Atlético Bucaramanga for Matchday 6 of the 2024-II Liga Betplay. The Red Devils come into this match after a 1-1 draw against Patriotas on August 4. Meanwhile, the Leopards lost 2-1 to Once Caldas.
América will face Atlético Bucaramanga fourteen days after their most recent match. Prior to this game, the team played a friendly at the Cascajal Sports Complex against Internacional de Palmira. The match ended 7-1. Goals were scored by Yerson Candelo, Harold Rivera, and Felipe Gómez. In the second half, Adrián Ramos (2), Jeisson Palacios, and Alexis Zapata scored.
Our technical director Jorge Da Silva and player Joel Graterol spoke to the media prior to this match:
"Not having any competition has allowed us to improve some physical and tactical aspects. We played a friendly to try and keep the team in rhythm. It's not easy not competing regularly; it's difficult to keep the team focused. What lies ahead is worrying, but for now we're focusing on the immediate task at hand, which is this match against Atlético Bucaramanga, the current champion, in a difficult venue. But we're eager to keep adding points to our tally, eager to keep growing as a team, and we're anxious to play, which is what every footballer wants most," our Uruguayan coach began.
Regarding the Leopard team, Da Silva analyzed the key aspects of this match: "They are the reigning FPC champions, they've retained many players and brought in some important ones. It's the same squad with the same coach. They're a team that knows exactly how they want to play in each match; it's very difficult to create scoring opportunities against them because they defend very well and are very strong in their own half. The important thing will be to stay focused and not give them any advantages."
For his part, our goalkeeper spoke about this match and the days they've been without competition: "We know that if there's a long break, at some point we're going to accumulate matches, so we have to be mentally prepared and physically strong. We know that Bucaramanga is a very strong team, that knows what it's doing, that has shown itself to be very competitive and very united. It's going to be a special match. This week has allowed us to be more in sync as a team with our game plan."
