América de Cali is preparing for the first leg of the Copa BetPlay semifinal. This Sunday, the Scarlet team travels to Medellín to face Atlético Nacional.
The match was moved up by Dimayor, but that didn't change the coaching staff's plans. This was confirmed by coach David González , who spoke to the media about the week's work:
“Throughout the week we had the opportunity to work on different aspects and objectives, regardless of the schedule. We have two players suspended, but the week's work was tailored to each moment with the ball. Tomorrow, before the game, we will fine-tune our defensive approach and be ready to face the match in the best possible way,” the coach stated.
González also commented on the level of both teams and the group's motivation: “They are two teams on a very good upward trajectory. We all know the quality of players they have, and they know ours too. Thinking about revenge isn't our style. We're going for the goal we've set for ourselves.”
The coach explained that recent training sessions were comprehensive, focused on maintaining the style of play regardless of the opponent or the setting: “Regardless of the opponent, we have to play our game,” he emphasized.
For his part, midfielder Andrés Felipe Roa expressed the group's excitement for this decisive match:
“It’s a great match to play, important for our aspirations, against a great rival. We hope to counter their strengths. The team is improving with each match and we have to keep building on the positives. We must be wary of their fast players and try to impose our style of play.”
The match between the Scarlet team and the green team will be played at 6:30 pm this Sunday at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in the capital of Antioquia.
