Preview: América hosts Deportes Tolima in matchday 3 of the Liga

América is starting to catch up on its pending commitments. This Wednesday, September 11, the Scarlet team hosts the Pijao team in the match valid for matchday 3 of the Betplay League 2024-II.

Regarding this match, our technical director Jorge Da Silva and player Yerson Candelo spoke to the press at the hotel in Villavicencio about the game:

We are focused now on the match against Deportes Tolima , knowing that it will be a very difficult match. We are going to face a team that has been playing with practically the same squad for several years, with few modifications. It is one of the strongest teams in the tournament,” said the Uruguayan strategist.

He added: “We will have to be very smart to manage the squad,” referring to the absences of some players and the injuries suffered by Rodrigo Holgado and Éder Álvarez during the match against Jaguares.

Regarding the aspects to correct, he indicated: “We must maintain a higher rhythm for more minutes of the game. I think that in the first 45 minutes against Jaguares we lacked dynamism, mobility, and movement off the ball. Hopefully, we can impose that rhythm against Tolima, a team that defends well and has very interesting attacking players.”

Defender Yerson Candelo also gave his analysis of the match against the Montería team: “For us it wasn't a hard-fought victory, it was a match that required patience to build each attack and in the end the reward came, that was the result of the effort made during the game.”

Regarding their next opponent, Candelo said: “Tolima is a well-established team in Colombian football; it’s always going to be a tough match. They’re a great team with a great coach. We’re completely focused on ourselves, and we know that if we execute our game plan perfectly, as our coaching staff has instructed, we’ll get the three points.”
