América de Cali returned to training on January 4th , under the technical direction of David González , with the aim of preparing for the challenges they will face during the first half of 2026 in the BetPlay League and the Copa Sudamericana .
After completing the first week of preseason, the Scarlet coach gave a positive assessment of the start of training, highlighting the team's tactical and collective approach. "In these first few days, we've worked on many situations and plays, improving support, continuity in play, transitions, restarts, and now we're focusing on communication during breaks and attacking the back line," González explained.
The coach also addressed the adaptation and quality of the club's new signings. “Sierra is a player who has already been here, won a championship, and knows what it means to be at América. Along with Machís and Fernandes, they are very talented and high-quality players. Those who have joined are here to contribute; they aren't gambles, they are established players,” he stated.
González also emphasized the importance of preseason for regaining rhythm and confidence ahead of the official competition. “We need to get into a rhythm with the ball and in a competitive game, to find the timing so that everything flows. As training progresses, that's achieved and it's reflected in the matches,” he noted.
Along the same lines, he explained that this period is also key to strengthening team unity. “Preseason allows us to build synergy and empathy, in addition to video sessions and theoretical work on team dynamics, without overloading the players, but clearly communicating what we want on the field.”
For his part, physical trainer Nicolás Ramírez highlighted the squad's excellent physical condition and the preventative approach to training. “We found the team in very good physical shape. We've been working on progressively increasing workloads to boost performance and minimize the risk of injury. The most important thing is to cultivate a culture of healthy eating, sleeping, and training habits, ensuring the players' commitment to the process,” he commented.
As part of their preparation, América de Cali will play a friendly match against Once Caldas next Tuesday, January 13 , while continuing to train for their debut in the BetPlay League 2026-I , where they will face Internacional de Bogotá .
