At approximately 2:00 pm, under the intense heat of the capital of Valle del Cauca, the central referee Danna Victorino from Tolima gave the order for the match between América and Atlético Nacional to begin.
Just 12 minutes into the game, after a switch of play by María Fernanda Agudelo , our captain Carolina Arias opened the ball on the right for Elexa who drove forward and passed it to Mariana Muñoz , our midfielder who shot from outside the area and the ball ended up going into the back of the net due to an error by the opposing goalkeeper.
The heat was no impediment for the stands to celebrate with the team led by John Tierradentro this first goal in a vibrant match full of emotions.
Our team continued to search for the opposing goal, with intensity, but without effectiveness.
The clock showed 39 minutes when, in a play by the opposing team that started on the right flank, Sara Martínez chipped the ball over our goalkeeper. Although Carolina Arias tried to save it, she couldn't stop the goal celebration that leveled the score for the Verdolagas. Thus, the first half ended in a draw. (1-1)
In the second half, our team tried to surprise the opposing goalkeeper with long-range shots that missed the target. The relentless Cali sun was still beating down when the referee blew the final whistle. Carolina Arias was the star of the match.
In the next round, América visits Orsomarso on Sunday, March 30th to play matchday 6.
