América de Cali defeats Medellín 1-0 and consolidates its lead in the standings

On a closely contested night, the Red Devils edged out the Antioquia team by a narrow margin at Pascual Guerrero, for matchday 14 of the BetPlay League 2024-II.

From the second minute, Adrián Ramos threatened with a shot from outside the box, which was well saved by the visiting goalkeeper. As time went on, players like Josen Escobar and Alexis Zapata joined the attack with shots that troubled the DIM defense, but they were unable to break the deadlock.

The clearest chance of the first half came in the 35th minute, when Felipe Gómez headed the ball, forcing a great save from the opposing goalkeeper. Despite the home side's persistence, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

The second half followed the same pattern: América dominated possession while Medellín tried to hold on. Nilson Castrillón and Jader Quiñones came close to breaking the deadlock with dangerous attempts, but the score remained tied.

Finally, when it seemed the match would end in a draw, the hero of the night emerged. In the 87th minute, after a precise cross from Jader Quiñones , defender Jeisson Palacios fired a shot with his right foot. Goalkeeper Éder Chaux managed to save the initial effort, but Palacios pounced on the rebound, pushing the ball into the back of the net and unleashing euphoria in the stands.

With this result, Jorge Da Silva 's team reached 32 points and solidified their position as league leaders. Now, their attention turns to the next challenge: the derby against Deportivo Cali, this Thursday, October 17th, at the Pascual Guerrero stadium, in the first leg of the BetPlay Cup quarterfinals.
