In front of more than 19,000 Scarlet fans, the team from the Sultana del Valle won with a resounding 3-0 victory against Boyacá Chicó at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium , for the 18th round of the BetPlay League 2025-I.
The Red Devils were superior from start to finish. The home side's first attempt came in the 3rd minute, with a shot from Duván Vergara from outside the area that goalkeeper Rogerio Caicedo managed to control.
In the 18th minute, Juan Fernando Quintero tried his luck with a powerful, low shot across goal that went just wide. Twelve minutes later, the American number 8 produced a moment of brilliance to open the scoring. Yerson Candelo assisted the skillful midfielder, who controlled the ball and then surprised everyone with a delicate chip that nestled into the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, Rodrigo Holgado scored the second goal of the night. After receiving a pass from Marcos Mina , the Argentine striker turned and fired a shot across goal, leaving Caicedo with no chance.
In the 41st minute, Holgado almost scored his second goal, trying to chip the visiting goalkeeper, but the ball went just wide and stifled another shout at the Pascual Guerrero stadium.
In the second half, the home team continued to dominate. In the 58th minute, Juan Fernando Quintero attempted an Olympic goal; however, Caicedo was alert and cleared the ball that was headed for the net.
With 12 minutes of regulation time remaining, Cristian Barrios was brought down in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty to América. Duván Vergara converted the penalty to seal the 3-0 victory at the Sanfernandino stadium.
With this result, the Reds reached 21 points and are the leaders of the BetPlay League 2025-I. Their next match will be this Sunday, March 30, when they host Fortaleza CEIF at the Pascual Guerrero stadium, for matchday 11 of the Colombian championship.
