América de Cali debuts in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana against Racing de Montevideo

América de Cali begins its journey in the Conmebol Sudamericana 2025 facing Racing de Montevideo this Wednesday at the Centenario Stadium, starting at 7:30 pm (Colombian time).

The Scarlet team comes into this match as the leader of the Colombian League, with a record of seven wins, three draws, and one loss in eleven games played. Meanwhile, Racing, managed by Christian Chambian, occupies fifth place in the Uruguayan league and qualified for this group stage after defeating Santiago Wanderers 4-2 on penalties.

América's coach, Jorge Da Silva , emphasized the complexity of the match and the importance of controlling possession. “We've faced many opponents in the domestic league with similar characteristics to Racing. It's up to us to find the paths and spaces to create scoring opportunities. It will be a tight match, so we must control the ball calmly and be effective in attack,” he stated.

For his part, striker Rodrigo Holgado emphasized the strength of the opponent and the need for a good start to the tournament. “We know it will be a very tough match. Racing has been doing well in the Uruguayan league, and teams from that country are very strong, but we have our own qualities and great players. The key will be to come together to find space, press high, and show what América is all about. It will be crucial to get the three points in this debut,” he said.

América concluded their preparations with a training session at the Gran Parque Central, where they focused on dribbling, quick movement, and tactical drills. Additionally, on Monday, March 31st, the team trained at facilities near the Campeón del Siglo stadium and inspected the Centenario Stadium, the venue for the match.
